Madoc, Addressing your points in reverse order: It doesn't saying anything bad about his character, as they are barbarian honors, and hence known by all Americans to be worthless. There is no shame in accepting such, as it supports the polite legal fiction that we are not absentmindedly measuring their necks for the chopping block. After all, they may someday give us cause to butcher them, but talking about it might spook 'em into doing something unfortunate. Dead foreigners cannot, after all, exchange goods, services and currency with us.
As for having earned them, they are no more than America is due. As our elected representative, the President of the United States can accept tribute on the behalf of the Constitution from the Barbarians. While the Nobel Peace Prize is an inadequate token in of itself, it is still a good start.
So, obviously, President Obama is wise and majestic in responding to this the way he does. Really, he deserves honorary degrees from every major foreign university. He clearly outclasses in every category, every person who is neither a natural born nor a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. Is there no end to his greatness?
